Hello Sunshine

"Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moments,
embark upon a sentimental journey,
and enjoy every idle hour." ~ John Boswell

Remember that last post when I mentioned I was done with snow...

It seems I typed too soon.

Several inches of that messy beautiful white stuff kept us home for a couple of days.  Sleeping in with my loves, unlimited coffee, days at home...I'm not complaining.  It snowed for what seemed like forever.  Finally, it stopped and the loveliness slowly started to melt away...and our yard turned to mush.

Which, to a certain three year old, is perfection.

And then...the sun returned.  It was beautiful and bright and warm.  That's the kind of weather that makes us girls happy.

My big girl had been asking to paint...it is one of our favorite things.  Since the weather was so nice, we carried all of our supplies outside and two little girlies painted to their hearts' desire in that beautiful sunshine.  When we paint, nothing is off limits...apparently.

Walking on dirt roads is another favorite thing.  This is the road I grew up on...the road where my parents live.  Now my girls play on this road.  I adore the country ♥

I also adore pretty little braids on my teeny tiny girl.

Isn't it amazing how something as simple as collecting eggs from the backyard can be so special.  I love our evenings together.  The sun setting through the trees, the animals free ranging and exploring, lovely little moments with my favorites...

I can get frustrated with the daily grind, depressed by the daily news...but I try to remind myself to focus on the good, to find the beauty, to dwell on the meaningful because each and every moment is a gift.  Life itself is a miracle.  I thank God daily for His mercy, His faithfulness, His showers of blessings.  Despite all that's wrong in the world, there is still hope and light and so much for which to be thankful ♥

We hope you had a blessed and beautiful week!

Savoring all the Little Things

"The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you." ~ Robert Louis Stevenson

This little things link up, it's one of my favorites.
Because that's what I love.
I adore the little things.
In the long run, they are the big things.
They remind me to slow down,
and they help me to remember what's important in life.

 A friend once commented on one of my pictures that she loves how "outside" our family is.  I love that, too.  As cold as it is now, it's not always easy to pull on the boots and extra layers, but we have all kinds of beautiful life depending on us and waiting to see us.
And once I get outside, I'm so thankful to be there.

We bring all kinds of pretty treasures with us when we head back into the house.

The chickens are laying more eggs than the girls can eat these days, so we are having the best time giving some away.

I feel as if it's been forever since the girls and I made a craft.  Decorating these egg cartons is the most crafting we've done in a long time.  And it feels oh so good.

We've given away three dozen so far.  All to family.  I love it. I let my big girl write the name tag every time.
Because that handwriting is the best.

Extra special, extra cute, extra happy delivery.
See.  These little things are so big and wonderful.
This was the best part of the day ♥

 You know what else is little and big and wonderful?
Munchkin kisses.

{And that hair? Every now and then, mommy gets to leave the Half-Acre Home on the Range for a little pampering and brighter, more colorful hair.  Because it makes her happy...and teal is her favorite.  A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do.}

We hope you're having a blessed and beautiful week!

Whatever Things are Lovely

"Some things...arrive in their own mysterious hour, on their own terms and not yours, to be seized or relinquished forever."
~ Gail Godwin

These are the little things...
We capture them, hold on to them, cherish them.

We enjoyed several more snow days together.  Time for lazy days, pajama days, keep no schedule days...it's all so fabulous.  And so necessary sometimes.

Extra time and little hands to help decorate...with marker tops. It's Pinterest worthy, I'm sure of it. {Side note: I may have mentioned in one of my classes that I wanted some antlers to decorate/craft with, and I may have had an awesome student bring me some, and the munchkin may have claimed them for herself.}

More time outside in the sunshine...these girls don't care how cold it is.

My Annabelle the Polka Dot Pig looks so pretty and clean in these snowy pictures...

{No worries, at the time of this posting she was back to her orange, muddy, adorable self.}

Our bare garden beds covered in snow.
Sleeping, dreaming of spring.

The last of the snow pictures.  I'm officially done with the cold.  It's wishful thinking but still wishing indeed...

Our pretty ladies are still laying beautiful eggs through this cold snap.

My two little girlies have been eating the eggs as fast as we gather them.  We've finally collected enough to give away our first dozen fresh, backyard eggs.

Every backyard farm needs a name...and a cheerful little label ;)

The first package of eggs to be given away had to be wrapped up with happiness and love.

And delivered by teeny tiny munchkin hands.

We sure do love these chicky chicks of ours.  My only regret is not listening to the experts who said to plan for more chickens than I think I want because inevitably, I will want more. Yep, totally should've listened...

We hope you're enjoying the little things and having a beautiful week! ♥

His lovingkindness begins afresh each day."
