Happy Birthday to My Blog!

Today, this dear little blog of mine is a year old!  It's so exciting...I feel like I should have cake or something!  I created this little space to share my faith and my family.  I have always wanted it to be encouraging and uplifting.  There is so much to bring folks down in today's world, so I thought if I could touch people and make them smile...then that would be a good day.  God has so richly blessed me in the past year.  If I sat and typed out all of my blessings and thanks, this post would never be finished.  Life can be trying.  It's not always easy, and it's not perfect, but it's so good.  And we couldn't get through any of it without the Lord.  My cups runneth over.

Writing and sharing this blog is my mommy time, my outlet...I've said before that it's almost therapeutic.  I have some pretty amazing friends who read along and share with me, and I just want to say thank you.  Here are a few of my favorites from the past year:

This was maybe my second post ever.  I introduced my zoo crew :)

Because we all need hope and time to rest

My tribute to summertime through Ecclesiastes :)

This was just a fun post...and I'm sharing two from July, but it makes up for the first few months when I didn't post anything ;)

This was a hard post to write.  I reflected on a terrible wreck I had with my girls...to this day, I know we were saved by God.  Not a day goes by that I don't think about it and how differently things could have turned out...

I had to include this.  I should print it off for her ♥
I still can't believe how big she's getting.

A few reflections (and maybe a few tears) as I sent my first baby girl off to kindergarten

This was another fun post...I shared my teal hair ;)

This was one of my most favorite posts (ok, I have lots of favorites)

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." ~ 2 Corinthians 5:17

This was just too funny not to share.
Isn't it great how we can laugh at ourselves after the fact ;)

A fun fall weekend roasting s'mores and riding through the mountains

A tribute to my partner, my best friend, my favorite guy :)

We spend Thanksgiving at the beach each year, and it is the best.  It feels like our second home.

I had to include one more post from the beach :)

Tis the season...

"But I will hope continually,
And will praise You yet more and more."
~ Psalm 71:14

What a blessed, beautiful, and crazy year!
Thanks again for reading along, and I wish you a very Happy New Year!

Sweet, Simple Saturday

I needed this verse this morning.  I have to remind myself of it often.
May the peace and comfort of the Lord carry us into the new year.
I hope you have a blessed and beautiful day my dear friends!

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year

I love Christmas.  I've spent the past few weeks soaking up every moment. Christmas has always been such a special time for us.  My parents have made sure of that!  We rejoice in the birth of Christ, and we enjoy days and days of celebrations and time together.  There are smiles, laughter, hugs, story-telling, gifts, warmth, and so much amazing food.  I ate more than I ever should have, but my goodness was it good...and I savored every bite :)

~ I have to share a little side note about food here.  I might pin recipes on Pinterest, buy pretty cookbooks, and watch The Foodnetwork, but a cook...I am not.  I managed to pull together a few things for our family Christmas meals, but for the most part, my awesome husband is our resident chef.  I present this conversation over my onion cutting skills to illustrate my point:

My hubby: “Let me show you how to cut an onion before you cut your thumb off.”

Me (while wearing sunglasses because my eyes were burning):  “I got this!”

Hubby:  “No, you don’t, give me the knife.”

My big girl: “Oh, thank you Lord for not letting mommy chop off her thumb!”

They think they're funny. ~

So, besides sharpening my culinary skills, I have been playing with the girls, spending time with family, and just enjoying every precious moment.  I thought I would share a little after Christmas cheer and highlight some of my favorite moments with my favorite peeps.

We spend a lot of time over at Biggi and Paw Paw's house (a.k.a. my mom and dad).  During Christmas, we practically live there.  My baby sister was in from college, and we had the best time.  We spent one night making gingerbread houses.  I think these two ate more icing and candies than we actually put on the house, but that's part of the fun, right. ;)

Our masterpiece :)  The poor roof started sliding apart.  I like to think it just had a custom sunroof.  It was pretty cute, fingerprints and all.

A special visitor popped in one evening to see the kids.  Their faces were priceless.

Christmas Eve was spent playing with a few new toys and making desserts.  There was never a shortage of coffee or sweet treats.

The new rocking horse had to be examined with the new doctor kit.  Maybe I have a vet in training ;)

We seriously have a herd of rocking horses now.

Dreamlights.  Aren't they the most fun?!  Both girls got one, and this is what it looks like when they go to bed.  Awesomeness.

The munchkin got a bike, and it's the most adorable thing ever...except for her in that helmet.  It took her some time to actually get on it, but she's warmed up to it now.  It even has a little bell.  Melt my heart.

And this is her new "bebe" that goes with us everywhere.  Silly girls.

There were many great moments, but I was so busy and caught up in the excitement of it all, that I missed taking a lot of pictures.  (Does that happen to anyone else?) I feel so richly blessed beyond anything I could ever deserve, and I thank the Lord for these priceless moments and these overflowing blessings.

I hope you and your families had a wonderful Christmas, and I wish you a Happy start to the new year!

Sweet, Simple Saturday

"Oh, come, our Dayspring from on high,

And cheer us by your drawing nigh,

Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,

And death's dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel

Shall come to you, O Israel!"

Wishing you and your families a very Merry Christmas as we rejoice and celebrate the greatest gift, our Lord and Savior ♥

'O Merry Christmas Tree

The other night, the hubby wanted me to snuggle up on the couch and watch one of the Bourne movies with him...I'm still not really sure which one, let me check...Legacy, The Bourne Legacy (he just laughed at me).

I’m in a funk...maybe a depression, I don’t really know.  Even before the tragedy last Friday, my heart had been dragging the ground some days.  I mean, I am deeply thankful for every moment, every second with my loved ones.  I am so richly blessed and thankful for so much, I could just touch the sky...but then...this fallen, evil world grabs me and pulls me back down.  Does that make any sense?  I can't even watch the news anymore.  It's just too much.  So that night, I was just not in the mood for a violent, bloody, over-the-top Hollywood movie.

BUT, I love hanging out with my husband...just being in the same room is enough for me.  So, I decided to join him but entertain myself and lift my own spirits by taking pictures of the Christmas tree for the Christmas Tree Link-up Parties with Veronica over at The Adventures of D and V and Jenna at The Life of the Wife  {You should totally join in!}  Rejoice, rejoice! :)

Without further ado, here is our humble tree...with no ornaments around the bottom or presents underneath because I have a two year old and a dog.
I think it's a little crooked, but no worries.  (I did actually try to straighten it, but it was more determined than I was.)  It still shines and brings us joy, so it's all good.

I let the girls decorate it.  Except for a few delicate ornaments around the top, I let them put everything else on the tree.  They were adorable and so excited.  I'm definitely not picky about the tree, so I really didn't care where the girls put the ornaments.  I want these traditions to be things they remember happily.  I don't want them to say something like, "Mom never let us touch the tree!"  However, I started to care a little more when the baby girl started popping the little hanger/tops off of the glass ball ornaments and wearing them on her fingertips...I did care a little then.

These are a few of my favorites:

(This just cracks me up.  A firefighter Santa and a Starbucks ornament hanging together.  The hubby and I are totally represented on this tree!)

And we HAVE to include the handmade goodies the girls have created!  My big girl just finds a new spot on the tree each time she makes a new craft :)

This is not the best picture, but I wanted to show just how much Charlie Brown-Black enjoys the Christmas tree ;) It's really hard to get a picture of him where he looks like more than a little, black, fuzzy blob.

By the end of the movie, I was running out of pictures to take and had slowly started watching, but I had no idea what was going on, so I was asking my husband a million questions which completely drives him crazy.  Do you do that?  I always do that.  {And I think it’s a clear sign that I have ADD when high speed action scenes don’t even hold my attention.}  All I know is (spoiler alert), at the end, the guy and the girl were together and “getting lost” on a large ship in the middle of the ocean.  I could totally handle that part.  Maybe next year...

But for now, I would just like to wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas!!

Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.  For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord."
~ Luke 2:10 & 11

Have a blessed day!
