Sundays With Pappy

We returned home this afternoon from another Sunday lunch and afternoon visit at my Grandma & Pappy's house.  My Grandma, who holds such a special place in my heart, has gone home to be with our Lord, but her presence and her touches are still woven all throughout that dear house.

Every time I visit, I find something new...or something I’ve probably looked over many times but never actually seen.

There is so much history, such special memories, and countless blessings.

This home has held and hugged so many children.  Each child who has left his or her little fingerprints here has received lots of love in return...and usually a new nickname ;)

For example, this is Pappy and his "Ollipop" :) ~ I just adore this picture!

During one visit, I mentioned my search for a new book to read.  He sent me home with a series of books he had enjoyed by Jan Karon.

In all honesty, I rarely get a chance to read anything other than Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight, so when I do get to curl up at the end of the evening with a good book, I prefer something uplifting, inspiring, and comforting. Coffee just goes better with happy stories!

When the first lines read, "He left the coffee-scented warmth of the Main Street Grill and stood for a moment under the green awning. The honest cold of an early mountain spring stung him sharply..." I knew I was probably going to enjoy this book! ;)

Even though I may not actually finish the series before the girls are teenagers, I am enjoying it every chance I get.

So, thanks Pappy for having us over, for loving our babies, for blessing our lives...and for the great book! :)

Enjoy your family, read a good book, and have a great day!
Amanda :)

Insta Friday: Our Week in Pictures

This is my first attempt to link up for Insta Fridays...we shall see how this goes ;)

life rearranged

We've had a pretty great week, and I thank the Lord for each and every moment.  Earlier in the week we took the girlies to the park.  I totally LOVE the fact that at this stage in their precious little lives, the best thing in the world is to to swing and slide!  And it makes me laugh and smile and feel like a kid myself.

We enjoyed time around the house to play, fight, know, whatever the day called for...

Sometimes it was just rolling around on the kitchen floor...

Now see, look how peaceful and loving they look! :)  I need to enjoy this for just a minute...Ok, moving on...

We played with a few dinosaurs (shocking, I know)!

This little lady thought I was going to steal her jewels or something ;)

We wore a few different hats this week...

This one was Daddy's...and I guess technically it's a helmet, but the best part was riding down the road as she added her own sound effects, "woo-ooo, woo-ooo."  Never mind the spelling, that's exactly how she sounded ;)

This one the big girl modeled in Lowe's.  It did not come home with us, but the adorable miss priss underneath did.

Before heading to church for Bible school this week, we dropped by Biggi & Paw Paw's.  Sometimes we have to do a little off-roading and head off the beaten path to find Paw Paw in his fields or garden...but that makes it even more fun! :)

My mom (affectionately called Biggi by my munchkins) has her own gardens, and I enjoy her flowers so much...probably because mine are pretty nonexistent at this point in the summer.

(I am really thankful that all of the bees that love her flowers as much as I do decided to stay put while I took a few pictures.)

And the grand finale...the munchkin demonstrates her gum chewing skills:

This lucky little piece lasted much longer than any of its counterparts that she has gotten her hands on recently!  It's so nice to see her biting into something other than her big sissy's arm.  She was so proud...but the moment was fleeting...and so was the gum ;)

I hope you all have had a beautiful week!  Have a fun weekend :)

Girl's Best Friend

I was thinking the other day that someone else in our little home is going to be pretty sad when we rejoin the rat race in a few weeks and head back to school, work, and Grandma’s.  Charlie Brown-Black (what he's affectionately known as lately) has enjoyed these summer days with us.

It could be that he just really enjoys the random assortment of foods and toys that the girls leave scattered across the floor for his enjoyment ;)

When the girlies and I came home with this little black fuzzy dog, I have to confess, it wasn’t quite the bulldog that my hubby had been wanting...I mean...there wasn’t even a resemblance (minor complication).  He secretly admits sometimes that Chuck Norris (he has his own special nickname for the pup) has won him over...but I won’t tell.  Our cat on the other may take her a little longer to adjust.   I always said that God knew just what we needed when he brought this little dog into our lives, but my husband pointed out that maybe God brought us into Charlie’s life...see what I mean...he likes him, but I digress ;)

"My little dog - a heartbeat at my feet."  ~ Edith Wharton
~ On a side note: It occurred to me as I posted this that all of these photos are of the backs of two girlies and their puppy.  This is probably because I have to try and sneak up on them to get a decent picture.  The element of surprise helps prevent a blurry black blob of a dog and his cold, wet nose pressed into my camera :)  but I still love these pictures!
Enjoy your pets, your children, and your life for they are all precious gifts!  Have a great day :)

My Heart is Full!

It's been such a lovely day, and it all started with warm, mushy white chocolate macadamia nut cookies (I have no recipe to share because we pulled them from a box in the freezer...don't judge).  Enjoyed with a spoon and a glass of milk, they were amazing!

We started Vacation Bible School this week, so later in the day I headed to Biggi's house (a.k.a. Grandma's or the place where my five year old says she's moving when she grows up) with my zoo crew to drop off the munchkin. ~ Since it's just two of them, maybe I should call them my zoo duo...but maybe not...

I am blessed with the most wonderful class of kids for Bible school.  We talked tonight about some of the works of Jesus, the miracles He performed, and the lives that He has touched (including our own).  We read our memory verse  ~ Psalm 150:2 ~

Then each student discussed things for which he or she was thankful.  As I listened to them, I was overjoyed as they talked about family, home, the Bible...but most importantly...their salvation!  It was one of those moments that you hold on to and reflect on during the long drive home.  My heart was touched and refreshed tonight, thank you precious Lord!

May your hearts be full, your souls uplifted, and your dreams sweet!  That is all :)  Good night!

July Realizations & Ramblings

Sadly, I realized the other day that July is almost over and my lovely (exists only in my head because I never planted a thing) garden looks nothing like my beautiful Pinterest gardens...sigh...maybe next year...

BUT thankfully we have a Papa Buck who graciously shares his bountiful harvests.  I love that he plants such a large garden each year so he can share it with others! :)

I also realized that a painter, I am not!

I decided to paint our's kind of a disaster.  We have that old brown wood paneling, and I thought I would paint it during my summer vacation...that was my master plan great idea.  I apologize to anyone who comes to visit us in the next...oh...five years because that's how long it may take me to repaint it.  The hubby likes it...we shall see...maybe it will grow on me.

July has been hot and dry, but it has been raining the last few days, and we are so thankful!  When it rains, it seems to me that I see lots more of these little guys trying to get across the road.  I try to stop when I can to help one on his or her journey...

Even in the heat, we still enjoy our evening walks (I'm sure you can't tell by all the pictures).  The summer is passing by much too quickly, though.  I want to stretch out these last few days and weeks.  I cherish this time with my family...and this slow, peaceful pace...

Then we come in from outside, and I walk into the girls' bedroom...not so peaceful...not so calm.  We've had all summer to put away, give away, throw away, and I come to yet another realization-this is how their room stays.  For today, I officially give up and toss in my hat...but it will be a hat that I don't like because I will never find it in this mess...

So, for now, I will focus on our outdoor fun...and junior mints (because they're the best...and my big girl is adorable in this picture).

I hope you are enjoying your time!  Eat something sweet, go for a walk, and have a blessed day!

One of those days...

I try to keep things positive, but it's just been one of those days...

One of those too much chaos, not enough coffee kind of days...

I want to throw myself on the floor and have a tantrum like my two year old get over it and count my blessings kind of days...

Even we moms who like to smile and keep things upbeat have days like this (right?)...especially with two little girlies who have decided at this stage in their lives that getting along is no fun.  (I must note, the baby girl has been sick all week, so that has not helped!)

Despite the crankiness of random days like this, there is a quote by Gretchen Rubin that I stumbled upon, and as a mom, it means so much:

~ "The days are long, but the years are short." ~ Well said Gretchen, well said...

So with that thought in mind, a glimpse of the sun trying to peek through, and a baby girl wrapped around my neck, I'm off to see what adventures the girls have in store for the evening...maybe we'll go for a walk, breathe some fresh air, make more coffee ;)

Have a happy day!

Summer ~ A Time to...

"To everything there is a season,
A time for every purpose under heaven..." ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1

A time to plant...

A time to laugh...

A time to embrace...

A time to love...

A time of peace...

Enjoy your time and have a blessed day! :)

Sweet Summertime

So, one would think with all of this summer vacation surrounding me, I would have posted more.  The truth is, I can never narrow down exactly what I want to write.  My thoughts are all over the place...much like my two year old! ;)

I am so thankful for summer vacations...for any vacations, really.  The stress I carry throughout the school year flows home with me and into my family life, and no matter how hard I try to avoid it, it seems inevitable.  So for now, I want to soak up the sunshine, enjoy every moment with my munchkins, and be thankful for each and every day that the Lord blesses us with!

Have a beautiful day!
